It is closer to the temple town of\u00a0 Srivilliputhur \u00a0in the\nNH208 (national Highway). It is an\u00a0educational\u00a0hub of the West\nVirudhunagar district. A prime attraction of this place are a 1000 year\nold temple, 200 year old Hindu School, 135 year old Pennington\nPublic Library. These are the remarkable historical evidence for\ncultural importance of this place. Thiruppavai, one of the pertinent\nconstituent of devotional Tamil literature period was from this temple\ntown. Another remarkable landmark of Srivilliputhur is a 11-tiered\ntower structure dedicated to the Lord of Srivilliputhur, known as\nVatapatrasayee, an avatar of Lord Vishnu is the presiding deity of\nSrivilliputhur Divya Desam. The tower of this temple rises 192 feet\nhigh and is the official symbol of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It is\nsaid to have been built by Periyalvar, in the year 788 CE and he is\nbelieved to be the adopted father of the Temple Deity, with a purse of\ngold that he won in debates held in the palace of Pandya King\nVallabhadeva.
